“That Christ may dwell in your hearts by faith; that ye, being rooted and grounded in love, May comprehend with all saints what is the breadth, and length, and depth, and height: And to know the love of Christ, which passeth knowledge, that ye might be filled with all the fulness of God.”

Once we accept the gift of salvation and Christ dwells in our hearts, we are to ground ourselves in his love. Just as a tree is firmly rooted in the soil, we are to be deeply rooted in the love of Christ. This love is not fleeting or superficial—it is a deep, unshakable foundation for our lives. It is because of his love for us that we have the opportunity to accept his gift of salvation. And just as he loves us, we are to love each other. Not just our brothers and sisters in Christ, family members and friends, but also the lost souls still on this earth.

It is by his love that we are more joyful and have a better understanding of each other and receive knowledge from our Heavenly Father. Paul emphasizes that the love of Christ “surpasses knowledge.” This paradoxical statement invites us to recognize that, while we can try to understand the love of Christ with our minds, it ultimately transcends intellectual comprehension. It is something we must experience personally and intimately, not just know theoretically.

Because of Jesus’ love on the cross we are filled with the Holy Spirit, the fulness of God. The experience of God’s love is not merely about knowing it in an abstract sense but about being filled with His presence. God desires that we be so saturated with His love that it transforms every part of us and flows out into the world around us.
