“Let your moderation be known unto all men, The Lord is at hand. Be careful for nothing; but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God.”
Paul’s call for moderation may seem simple, but it’s packed with meaning. The word moderation in this context speaks to a balance or self-control—living in a way that is calm, steady, and not overly concerned with worldly things. Paul encourages us to let this attitude be known to all people. In other words, our lives should reflect a peace and contentment that others can see, even in the midst of a chaotic world
We can rejoice in the Lord for everything he’s done for us and will do for us. It is because of our rejoicing that this world knows that we are close to our Lord and he draws near to us. Because of our relationship with him we can bring our requests before him and he will both hear and know them. We can praise and thank him for the prayers he’s answered and rejoice that he will answer our requests at the right time. It doesn’t matter what the request may be.
What may seem simple or silly to us, is important to him. We entrusted him with a request, desire of our heart, and that makes it important and dear to him. We are his children, and he wants to bless us with answered prayers and fulfilled requests. We don’t have to be anxious and worry about how our prayers sound or if we’ll even get an answer. He is a good God that will provide and wants to answer our prayers! We just need to trust that he will do so and place it in his hands!
