“As the Father hath loved me, so have I loved you: continue ye in my love.”
It’s impossible to ignore the profound depth of Jesus’ love here. He’s saying that the same love the Father has for Him—the eternal, perfect, unfailing love of God—is the love that He extends to us. This isn’t a conditional love based on our performance or how well we’ve “earned it.” It’s a love given freely, simply because we are His.
Can you imagine that kind of love? The love that existed between God the Father and God the Son before the foundation of the world is the love that Jesus offers to you and me. It’s not distant or abstract, but deeply personal and accessible.
In this verse, Jesus doesn’t just tell us that He loves us; He gives us an invitation to remain in that love. To “remain” isn’t a passive thing—it’s an active choice we make daily. It’s a decision to stay connected to the vine, to rest in His love, and to let His love shape who we are and how we live.
Remaining in His love means choosing to believe in it even when we feel unworthy. It means trusting in it even when the world tries to tell us that we don’t measure up. It means turning to Him with our struggles and allowing His love to be our safe place, our anchor in every storm.
