“Have I not commanded thee? Be strong and of a good courage; be not afraid, neither be thou dismayed: for the LORD thy God is with thee withersoever thou goest.”
Such a strong message from God to the Israelites! Life has a way of making us feel small sometimes. Maybe you’re stepping into an unknown season—starting a new job, raising a family, facing a battle you never saw coming. Fear whispers, What if I’m not strong enough? What if I fail? But friend, let me remind you: God has already equipped you for this moment.
Joshua 1:9 isn’t just a comforting verse; it’s a command from God. He doesn’t say, Try to be strong or If you feel like it, be courageous. No—He says, Have I not commanded you? That means His strength isn’t optional; it’s a promise we can stand on. When Joshua received this word, he was stepping into Moses’ shoes—a massive responsibility! He had every reason to feel overwhelmed. But God didn’t ask Joshua to rely on his own abilities. He simply asked Joshua to trust Him. And the same is true for you!
It’s easy to let fear creep in. But notice how God tells us not just to be strong, but also “be not afraid, neither be thou dismayed.” That means when fear comes knocking, we don’t have to answer the door. Wherever you go, God goes too. Into that difficult conversation. Into the doctor’s office. Into the unknown future. You are never walking alone.
So today, no matter what mountain you’re facing, hold your head high. God is leading you. He’s strengthening you. And He’s already gone before you!
