”Then shalt thou prosper, if thou takest heed to fulfil the statutes and judgments which the LORD charged Moses with concerning Israel: be strong, and of good courage; dread not, nor be dismayed.”
In the hustle and bustle of daily life, it can sometimes feel as though we’re building our lives without a clear sense of direction. From the demands of work to the intricacies of family dynamics, it’s easy to lose sight of the bigger picture. But in the midst of all the busyness, we are reminded in Scripture that we are all building something. The question is: Are we building with purpose?
David’s words to Solomon are not just a father’s encouragement; they are a divine blueprint for anyone who is called to build, whether that is a physical structure, a family, or a life full of faith.
David tells Solomon that if he follows the statutes and judgments of the Lord, he will prosper. This isn’t prosperity as the world defines it—measured by wealth or status. Rather, it’s a spiritual prosperity that aligns us with God’s will. It’s the prosperity of peace in our hearts, contentment in our circumstances, and a life that reflects God’s grace.
As parents, spouses, and believers, the foundation of our homes and lives must be built on obedience to God’s Word. When we adhere to His commandments, we invite blessings—not just for ourselves, but for generations to come. Just as Solomon was given the responsibility of building the temple, we are tasked with building lives that honor God. And that begins with obedience.
“Be strong, and of good courage” is an exhortation to face challenges head-on, not in our own strength, but in God’s. Life is full of trials, and there are moments when we feel ill-equipped to handle them. But God’s Word reminds us that we are not to cower in fear or be dismayed by the obstacles before us.
What we build today will influence the generations that follow. Whether we’re raising children, building our careers, or establishing a deeper relationship with Christ, the principles of 1 Chronicles 22:13 remain true: we must build with purpose, strength, and courage, all while leaning on God’s promises!
