In Gibeon the LORD appeared to Solomon in a dream by night: and God said, Ask what I shall give thee. And Solomon said, Thou has shewed unto thy servant David my father great mercy, according as he walked before thee in truth, and righteousness, and in uprightness of heart with thee; and thou hast kept for him this great kindness, that thou hast given him a son to sit on his throne, as it is this day. And now, O LORD my God, thou hast made thy servant king instead of David my father: and I am but a little child: I know not how to go out or come in. And thy servant is in the midst of thy people which thou hast chosen, a great people, that cannot be numbered nor counted for multitude. Give therefore thy servant an understanding heart to judge thy people, that I may discern between good and bad: for who is able to judge this thy so great a people?

Solomon’s Prayer to God

The well known story of King Solomon’s prayer! God came to Solomon in a dream and asked him what he wanted to be given. If Solomon would have been any other man, he would have probably asked for riches or victory over all of his enemies and great power! But I believe that’s why God didn’t give that option to any other man! Because he knew Solomon’s heart! So how did he respond? With humility!

His concern for his inexperience

Solomon acknowledged that it was God’s mercy to David and the relationship that David had with the Lord that he was placed in this great position! It was David’s testimony of having an upright heart and living righteously before God that God allowed his son to take the throne as Israel’s new king. Solomon also recognized that he was still young with no experience so he didn’t know what he was doing. He called himself a child with no knowledge of how to best lead Israel.

So what was his request? For someone else to lead? An easy time of reigning while he was on the throne? No, he asked for an understanding heart so he would know how to best rule God’s people! To have the ability to know and discern the good and bad in order to make the best decisions! What a testimony! He could have asked for anything! And he asked for wisdom!

To apply his example

How about you dear sister? Have you ever thought about what you would have asked for if you had been Solomon? Or if God gave you that option today, what would you choose? What if I told you that you do have that opportunity? Gd doesn’t have to come to you in a dream to ask what you want to be given. We have the ability to go before his throne and speak to him daily and directly!

So what will we ask for? Do we desire peace in our homes? A stronger relationship and walk with God? Victory over anger? Patience with our spouses and children? An understanding heart? No matter what it is, you can bring it before our Heavenly Father and lay it at his feet! He listens to our prayers! We have to trust in him and believe that he truly loves us and will take care of our needs! He wants to hear your voice in his throne room bringing your requests before him!

Leave a prayer request below and allow me to go to battle with you today! To pray with you and bring your requests before him!
