Have you reached the place of constant burn out? You have a lot to do in the day but not enough time to get it done? Or maybe your day is just so all over the place you wouldn’t even know where to begin? You need some downtime but you can’t find more than a few minutes here and there between cleaning, nap time, running errands, etc.? I’ve been in a similar place! Though slightly different…

When Isaiah and I got married we both were only making enough to pay for the essentials. Rent, some groceries, gas, and car insurance. Thankfully our first apartment we didn’t have to pay any of the utilities but that still didn’t leave a whole lot of room for any extras. So for our the entirety of our marriage, we haven’t had internet and we still wash laundry at his parent’s house so we don’t have to pay for a laundromat as we don’t have in home laundry in our current apartment. But in the case of not having internet, that doesn’t leave many things to do for entertainment, etc. So I quickly got burnt out on playing with Gideon and then putting him down for a nap, then trying to get something cleaned in the house before he woke up, to just scrolling on my phone, or trying to find a book to read, and then eventually starting dinner, etc.

The same thing over and over again left me frustrated by the end of the day, I was overwhelmed, and I was getting tired of Isaiah coming home to us both being grumpy. So I was decided that it was high time something needed to change! I decided that I would wait until after the holidays as trying to start a new routine amidst a very busy season of life would make things that much more stressful. But in that time I started thinking and planning. Trying to think of things that would help take a load off and balance out my day to day tasks. I made a list of things that were a must, what I wanted to start incorporating, etc. A cleaning schedule was top of the list! I knew that giving myself certain tasks each day would help me stay on top of the cleaning without feeling like I had a lot to do. I also wanted to start working out and getting my body fit again. Not so much in shape as I know that “in shape” has so many definitions and expectations. And it would help with my desire to start pursuing family health and being fit would help my physical health as well!

During the last week of 2024 I had figured out a more consistent daily routine for Gideon and I. It just happened to work out perfectly that he had reached the point where we needed to adjust his nap schedule to fit him better anyways so this was definitely going to help! As the New Year started, I had an idea of how I wanted the day to look but was wanting to fine tune it and was prepared to make adjustments as needed!

It took about a week for me to fully figure out what would work best for us and it’s been such a game changer! I’m able to get more accomplished without feeling overwhelmed or like I have too much to do, Gideon has adjusted well and is slowly learning the routine even if he may not fully understand it. I love a routine, having something to help keep me grounded and organized, and having enough change that I’m not going to feel like I’m stuck in a loop!

Here’s what our day typically looks like for us now. We still don’t have internet for now but it’s still a productive day for us!

7:00-8:00

-I get up around 7-7:15 depending on how Mr. Gideon slept through the night and if I’m wanting a few extra minutes of sleep lol!

-Before I get out of bed, look at my phone, etc. I start my day with a short prayer asking for grace and strength for my day and that he would go before me as I go about my day.

-I get dressed in some loose clothes and workout for 15-20 minutes to a simple workout routine I’ve set for myself.

-I get dressed in clothes for the day, fix my hair, brush my teeth, wash my face, and maybe put on some mascara if I feel like it.

-Depending on my mood, I’ll start some coffee, mix up a Plexus slim, take my supplements, and I’ll spend some time in God’s Word.

8:00-9:00

-If it’s the beginning of the week I’ll start the new toy rotation for that week.

-Gideon has started waking up around 8 a little more consistently. I’ll get him out of bed and get him changed and dressed for the day.

-I’ll get breakfast going. It changes day to day with our meal plan.

-After breakfast I get Gideon all cleaned up and set him at his toys in the living room and then I’ll start cleaning up breakfast.

9:00-10:30

-I spend a majority of the time playing with Gideon with his toys.

-I spend some time writing out ideas or devotions for the blog.

-I’ll sit and read a book for a short while if I’m feeling like it.

-Change Gideon as needed.

10:30-11:00

-I’ll change Gideon again if he needs it before nap time.

-We make Gideon his bottle for naptime and snuggle in his rocker until he’s done and then he gets laid down in his crib.

11:00-12:30

-Gideon typically naps for an hour to an hour and a half.

-I’ll clean up his toys/pick up the floors as a quick reset for the afternoon.

-Whatever room is on the cleaning schedule for the day I start cleaning while listening to music. ( I’ve started cleaning to worship music as it helps ground me in the Lord and ministers to my spirit).

-I’ll have some down time and sit on my phone or spend some time with one of my hobbies. (crocheting, painting by number, coloring, reading.)

-I start making lunch whether it’s leftovers or something different for that day.

12:30-1:30

-I get Gideon up from his nap if he isn’t awake already.

-We sit down and eat lunch if it’s ready.

-I’ll clean Gideon up and set him down in the kitchen with some toys as I clean up lunch.

-Dishes typically get done at this point in time.

1:30-3:15

-Any cleaning I didn’t get done while he napped gets finished up.

-We sit and play together at his toys.

-I’ll practice on the piano.

-If I have any errands that need to be done, we’ll go do them.

3:30-5:00

-Gideon gets changed and we make his afternoon bottle.

-Gideon gets laid down for his afternoon nap.

-I pick up the floors again for the afternoon reset.

-I spend some more time working on posts for the blog.

-I’ll start prepping for dinner as the recipe calls for it.

5:00-8:00

-Gideon gets up from his nap.

-I’ll start making dinner.

-Isaiah gets home from work.

-Dinner gets cleaned up and dishes are rinsed and placed in the dishwasher.

-We spend time together playing on the floor as a family.

-Any other tasks or bigger errands that need done will done together as a family.

-We start winding down for the evening.

8:00-10:00

-Gideon gets a bath if it’s bath night and put in pjs.

-Isaiah or I will make him his bedtime bottle and put him down for bed depending on who’s night it is.

-The final house run through for the evening.

-We spend some quality time together and play a game or visit about our day.

-We have our evening devotion and usually try and be off of our phones for the night around 9:30-10.

Since starting this routine, my days have gotten a lot smoother for me and easier to follow. With my cleaning routine I have a designated room for the day and that’s is what I’ll focus on cleaning/scrubbing. I’ll pick up in other rooms but I don’t stress about what needs to be done specifically in that room.

With toy rotating and resetting at nap time, I learned that trick from Lexie Thiery on Instagram! She’s an amazing woman and she has encouraged me so much in my walk with Christ the past few years that I’ve followed her! Essentially, you divide up your kiddo’s toys into 4 groups. 1 for each week of the month. Each week you switch out the group of toys so that they all get used! If they see the same toys every day, they eventually get bored with them. Changing them out essentially makes them “new’ again because they haven’t seen it/played with it in that time frame! Gideon doesn’t have that many toys so I’ve only divided them up into 2 groups especially with him being so little, other things will be just as exciting to play with lol. I currently use a couple of plain toy baskets but here soon I’ll be getting him some tote baskets!

For my supplements I currently take Ashwagandha and iron. I’m hoping to add more in the next couple of months from Plexus! The women in my family have low iron so we take supplements to help with anemia! I started taking Ashwagandha last July and I noticed the results in just one week! Ashwagandha helps reduce stress and anxiety by reducing your cortisol levels, reduces inflammation. Helps to improve blood sugar, mood, memory, and brain function. And treats insomnia while helping to improve sleep quality. It also helps regulate the menstrual cycle and balances hormones. It isn’t safe to use if your pregnant as is could cause miscarriage or preterm labor.

I hope that by sharing our routine that it would be a blessing to you and that you will be able to create a routine that is perfect for your family!
