“And she said, oh my lord, as thy soul liveth, my lord, I am the woman that stood by thee here, praying unto the LORD. For this child I prayed; and the LORD hath given me my petition which I asked of him: Therefore also have I lent him to the LORD; as long as he liveth he shall be lent to the LORD. And he worshipped the LORD there.”

What a time of rejoicing it was for Hannah! After years of heartache and praying in bitterness of soul, God had answered her prayer! She rejoiced and had a heart of gratitude. We see in Hannah’s response that gratitude should be at the core of our relationship with God. Even when the answer to our prayers is delayed or looks different from what we expect, God is still listening, and He will answer in His perfect timing. Truly a testament to our loving God who hears and answers his children!

Hannah also had a heart of surrender! She dedicated Samuel back to the Lord and it was a profound act of surrender! After experiencing the joy of answered prayer, she doesn’t cling to her son but instead releases him into God’s hands. How often do we find ourselves holding on tightly to the blessings God gives us, afraid to let go or trust that He has a bigger plan? Hannah’s example teaches us that surrender is not the loss of control but an acknowledgment that God’s plans are always greater than our own.

I have noticed that when he answers, it tends to be 1 of 3 ways.

1. Yes!

2. Not yet!

3. I have something better in mind!

Trusting God’s bigger plan:

Hannah’s story reminds us of the importance of trust in God’s perfect plan. When we surrender our desires and plans to Him, we acknowledge that His wisdom far exceeds our understanding. While we may never fully understand the hows and whys of God’s timing, we can rest assured that He works all things for good (Romans 8:28). Hannah trusted God with her deepest desire, and in return, God not only gave her a son but also gave Israel a leader who would help guide the nation through a pivotal time.

In life, we often find ourselves in seasons of waiting, praying, and hoping. Like Hannah, we may face challenges that feel impossible to overcome. But we can take comfort in knowing that God hears our prayers and will answer according to His perfect will. Hannah’s story teaches us the beauty of gratitude, the power of surrender, and the importance of worship. As we walk in faith and trust, let us remember to always give our hearts, our desires, and our lives back to God, knowing that He will use them for His glory!
