“Likewise the Spir’-it also helpeth our infirmities: for we know not what we should pray for as we ought: but the Spir’-it itself maketh intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered. And he that searcheth the hearts knoweth what is the mind of the Spir’-it, because he maketh intercession for the saints according to the will of God.”
We don’t always know when we commit a sin or wrong doing as we go about our day. It’s not something we typically think about. With every action we take and task we accomplish, our first thought isn’t usually “Did I have a wrong spirit or attitude?”, “Are my thoughts honoring God?”, etc. That is why we have a Heavenly Father who knows all and a Holy Spirit to make intercession for us.
This is why we should follow David’s example and ask God to search our hearts so we might daily confess known and unknown sin. God knows our hearts and desires that we would draw closer to him so that we might relinquish our sin and be purified daily. To have a stronger relationship with him and make the conscious decision to honor him in everything we do or say.
We don’t have to worry about condemnation for our actions as the Holy Spirit makes intercession for us if we violate God’s law. Knowingly or unknowingly. But even though we may not face condemnation, we will one day be judged on our actions. It should be a daily choice to be more aware and mindful of our actions that they would honor and please the Lord. We will never be perfect but that doesn’t mean we can use it as an excuse to do the bare minimum.
