“Beloved, let us love one another: for love is of God; and every one that loveth is born of God, and knoweth God. He that loveth not knoweth not God; for God is love.”
God is love! This profound declaration is not just a theological statement—it’s a call to action, a reminder of our high calling to reflect His love in every aspect of our lives! True, selfless love originates in the heart of God, and it is only through knowing Him that we can truly love as He loves. The love we’re called to give is not something we can manufacture on our own. It is the outpouring of God’s love within us, a love that has been lavished on us and is meant to overflow to those around us.
But love is not just a transaction—it’s an intimate relationship with the Creator. To “know God” is to experience Him personally, to understand His heart, and to be shaped by His character. This knowledge of God is not just intellectual; it’s relational. It’s through our relationship with Him that we grow in our ability to love others with the same compassion, patience, and grace that He shows to us.
It’s important to remember that God’s love is not a mere feeling or emotion. It is active, sacrificial, and unconditional. He demonstrated this love most powerfully through the cross. Jesus laid down His life for us, showing us the true nature of love. And it’s this same love that we are called to model in our relationships.
The call to love is not just for those who are easy to love. Jesus Himself challenged us to love our enemies and pray for those who persecute us. This kind of love is radical, and it requires the power of the Holy Spirit to live out. On our own, we can’t love the way God calls us to love. But when we lean into Him, He equips us to love with His love—love that changes hearts, heals wounds, and builds bridges.
