“I am crucified with Christ: nevertheless I live; yet not I, but Christ liveth in me: and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by the faith of the Son of God, who loved me, and gave himself for me.”
Because of Jesus’ love for us he gave his life for us. Through his sacrifice we can live in faith. When we place our faith in Christ, our old selves—our sin, our selfish desires, our old way of living—are crucified! Our sins are paid for, our flesh was put to death, and we were made new! This doesn’t mean we’re perfect—far from it—but it’s the understanding that our old nature is dead, and we are now free to live according to God’s will.
Even though our old self is dead, the amazing truth is that we are alive! And not just alive in the way we once were, but alive in Christ. The life we live now is different, it’s marked by Jesus’ presence in us. The power that raised Jesus from the dead lives in us, and it changes everything!
The love of Jesus isn’t passive; it’s transformative. He loved us so much that He gave Himself up for us. When we realize this, we can’t help but respond with gratitude. His love becomes the foundation of our lives, and from there, we are empowered to live the life He calls us to live.
As we walk out our faith today, let’s keep in mind that our identity is no longer tied to the person we once were. We are crucified with Christ, yet we live—alive in Him, living by His power and trusting in His love.
